“A true to Life friend forever!”
These are just a few of the ways family and friends describe Dave. This fundraiser is one small way of carrying his hope forward for others facing pancreatic cancer.
Research · Awareness · Hope
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the toughest challenges in oncology — survival rates have only improved modestly over the past half-century. According to Pancreatic Cancer North America, despite medical advances, the overall improvement in survival has been minimal, highlighting a desperate need for new approaches in detection, treatment, and research.
One of the key problems with pancreatic cancer is how stealthily it often develops. Early stages generally produce no noticeable symptoms; by the time warning signs appear — such as abdominal or back pain, unexplained weight loss, digestive issues, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin/eyes) — the disease is frequently advanced. Because of this, many diagnoses come too late for surgical intervention, which remains the only potential cure in a minority of cases.
That’s why raising awareness, funding research, and supporting patients and families matters so much — especially in communities like ours. Papa’s Hope is built on this urgency: to honour Dave’s legacy, help educate others about what pancreatic cancer truly is, and channel hope into meaningful support. By amplifying awareness, gathering community, and supporting funding and research, we aim to contribute — however humbly — to changing statistics for future generations.
